Menopause - When hormones change ... Your lifestyle must too!

For those of you who weren’t aware yesterday was “World Menopause Day”. Over half the world’s population experiences perimenopause and menopause typically starting in their 40’s. Some sail through it but others are hit with a barrage of symptoms.

Many of my female clients discuss their deep frustrations and upset with weight management during this time in life. Gone are the days when they could cut back for a few weeks and lose those excess pounds. They tell me the journey to feel like themselves again seems impossible!

But it’s not impossible … but it does need another formula

Weight loss and weight management when we hit mid-life means managing hormone changes which affect how our bodies cope with food, stress and other lifestyle factors. Therefore we need a more holistic approach to our lifestyle habits, in particular,  consistent good nutrition, a strength & fitness programme that metabolically challenges our bodies, relaxation and time each day to decompress, recharge and reset.

“I am 58 and after having a hip replacement early last year I found myself in somewhat of a downhill spiral - my weight had gone up and my fitness level had hugely deteriorated - (I had always been fit as I worked in a gym but left after hip replacement ) I had tried many ‘ diets ‘ over the last year but my weight just kept going up - I was very unhappy - then I signed up for Alva’s 10 week program - we spoke in depth about what I wanted to achieve in the 10 weeks - Alva gave me encouragement and guidance - a realistic eating plan to fuel my body ( no more cutting meals) and help me establish a new exercise plan - Alva was always on hand for advise if and when needed.
I continue to lose weight after the 10 weeks and have now lost nearly 6 kilo - I am confident I can keep the weight off and am again enjoying exercising. Alva has got me back on track for sure and I would highly recommend he”
