Avocados Can Help With Weight Loss!


Avocados are a nutrient dense whole food that can help with weight loss. Yes, eating more, not less of nutritious full fat foods that satisfy appetite may be the best long-term recipe for managing weight. Avocados are full of heart healthy monosaturated fats. These fats have been shown to protect against heart disease and lower blood pressure. This high fat food helps us feel fuller longer, keeps blood sugar stable and stops the urge to overeat. Avocados are also rich in antioxidant vitamins, especially vitamin E. They have more soluble fibre than any fruit, which helps slows down the release of sugar into the bloodstream. Avocados contain many great minerals too including iron, copper and folate as well as a great source of potassium, which helps moderate blood pressure and may in turn help with cardiovascular disease and stroke.

A simple but tasty guacamole

The perfect snack as a dip for raw vegetables or a great addition to a burger, grilled meat dish or a salad.

2 avocados, peeled and stoned

3 ripe tomatoes, quartered

1 clove of garlic, peeled and crushed

1 red onion, chopped finely

½ teaspoon of ground cumin

Handful of fresh coriander

Freshly ground salt and pepper

Juice of one lime

Olive oil


Put the avocados, tomatoes, scallions, garlic, cumin and coriander in a food processor and blend to a chunky consistency. Season with salt and pepper and add lime juice. Finally stir in the olive oil. Enjoy!
