Growing children, active adults and older adults need to ensure they’re taking in enough protein to help with muscle growth and recovery. There is lots of “protein” products on our supermarket shelves but do we really know how nutritious or healthy these products are? If there is a long list of ingredients with many you don’t recognise you can be pretty sure it isn’t a natural, healthy choice.

A great way to up your protein intake in a healthy way is to try this super nutritious Almond and Chia seed smoothie. This smoothie is also very high in calcium so great for bone health too!

Almond and chia seed protein smoothie

Six simple ingredients

Milk or protein milk (7.5g protein per 150mls) - enough to create pouring consistency
Natural or Greek yogurt - 2 heaped tablespoons (2g protein)
1 banana (1g protein)
1 good large handful (or 2 of mixed frozen berries (1-2g protein)
2 tablespoons of chia seeds (4.5g protein)
About 10 almonds (2.5g protein)

Makes 2 servings

Nearly 10g Protein per smoothie
