Diamond Push Up

One of the many advantages of adding push ups to your workout is that you can change the feel and muscle emphasis of the exercise by adjusting the position of your hands. So no workout needs to be the same!

In the diamond push up we change the position of our hands from the typical wide grip push up to a close-grip push up where the tips of your pointer fingers and the tips of your thumbs are together. So you create a diamond-shape between your hands. As you descend your elbows stay pulled in close to your sides.

The diamond push up targets your triceps first and your chest and shoulder muscles second. With your hands closer together it is more challenging as it creates more instability as you move. Your triceps are also much smaller than your chest muscles and using them to push your bodyweight up and lower it down is more difficult.
